CTC Plus uses prevention science to attend to the needs of a community. Volunteers gather and interpret data to identify risk and protective factors within the community. These protective factors are scientifically proven by the university of Washington to be predictors and offer protection to youth. The university of Washington developed the social development model, which consists of Skills, opportunity, and recognition, coupled with clear standards of behavior, will equal bonding and health behaviors in youth. It works. The University of Washington completed a randomized controlled trial of 24 communities across 7 states. Each community was paired within the states, and each assigned as either a control community or were assigned to use the CTC process. 4,407 students participated and followed by researchers in to adulthood. Positive changes were found in the CTC communities greater than the control communities. These effects were sustained into adulthood.
